Our latest production "Purple Disco Machine - From Dresden to the World" can be seen on March 28 at 10:55 pm on MDR and can be streamed afterwards in the media library. The film by Marcus Fitsch follows the eponymous DJ and music producer Tino Piontek a.k.a. "Purple Disco Machine" from Dresden.

The world star from Dresden

His music plays up and down the radio. His concerts are sold out worldwide. And one of his remix tracks even won a Grammy in 2023. And yet few people know his face - especially in his native Germany. Dresden-born Tino Piontek a.k.a. "Purple Disco Machine" is an international star who plays on the world's most important DJ stages. We were allowed to accompany him with the camera and interviewed him personally as well as some of his music colleagues about the "Purple Disco Machine" phenomenon. We accompany the musician in New York, where he plays a sold-out show on a rooftop in Brooklyn, as well as at one of his most personal concerts in his home city of Dresden.

The disco sound

But what makes his sound so special? Musician friend Mousse T. sees the recipe for success in the familiar beats from the 70s and 80s mixed with a cool underground sound and pop elements. And last but not least, it is probably the good mood and disco feeling of his tracks that almost inevitably lead to full dance floors.

Purple Disco Machine is a permanent guest in clubs on Ibiza, headliner at festivals all over the world and not only since the Grammy win in 2023 also known for his remixes of songs by stars such as Elton John, Lady Gaga, Dua Lipa and Diplo. At the same time, however, he is very down-to-earth, a husband and father who doesn't want to make headlines with his private life - but with his music. And he obviously succeeds in this very well. Last year, his tour took him through the USA and South America, among other places, and it was not uncommon for the gigs to be completely sold out. He is currently about to release his new album, is on a major American tour and will start his "Paradise" tour after the 2024 festival summer with several stops in Germany and Europe.
